A double-ring ceremony, where both the bride and groom exchange bands, is a fairly new convention, becoming the norm as late as the 20th century. A previous incarnation was seen in the 16th and 17th century in the form of a gimmel ring – a ring with two interlocking bands. The bride and groom would each wear one during the engagement period, but the pair would be reunited on the bride’s finger at the wedding ceremony.

When the wedding ring industry finally started to include men as well, their choices were a bit limited. Silver…or gold? Even as women’s bands became more and more intricate, the trends for men remained stagnant. Until recently. Suddenly a wide and varied lot of diamond wedding rings have popped up, honoring the individuality and personal style of the groom. (After all, that’s why you chose to marry him, right, ladies?)

If his style comfort zone has a pretty small radius, opt for a contemporary band shape and channel setting:

If he tends toward pieces that are a bit more unique, yet still understated, look toward patterned bands with a clean setting:

If he holds his own on the fashion court, go for something a bit more commandeering, like this powerful ring bedecked with princess cut diamonds:

One of the best things about the men’s diamond movement is it allows the two of you to coordinate your rings together, and choose complementary designs that represent your coupledom as a whole. (And who wouldn’t love a little extra sparkle in their relationship?)

An Art-Deco Valentines Day in LA

by King of Jewelry on January 30, 2017

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and we’re already getting swept up in the romance of the season. Apparently so is the rest of Los Angeles, because engagement rings are suddenly glinting and gleaming from all of our lady friends’ fourth fingers. One silhouette in particular seems to be particularly popular this year: The asscher cut.

Timelessly modern, the asscher cut is a square variation on the emerald cut. Its unique shape was developed in 1902 and was especially popular during the 20’s. Elizabeth Taylor brought it back in the public eye in 1968 with her infamous 33.19 carat Krupp diamond.

Perhaps best of all (for you), is that the elegant art deco design plays right into your classy VDay proposal hand. Put on your Sunday best and seek out a local speakeasy. If you’re in LA, we recommend The Varnish downtown for its old-school, very grown-up feel.
