The three-stone ring is one of the most popular types of engagement rings. The Holy Trinity has three stones instead of just one, like a solitaire. Traditional three-stone rings have stones that are all the same size. Modern three-stone rings can have stones of different sizes next to each other.

Choosing the Type of Cut For Your Three-Stone Diamond Rings
There are a few considerations to keep in mind when deciding on the type of cut you want for your three-stone diamond ring. Traditionally, the smaller side stones will be smaller, together equalling the weight of the main center stone. The two side stones will create a sense of balance for your ring. For example:
- A cut such as an emerald diamond will often look great with round or tapered baguette side stones.
- If you work with more of a round cut, like an oval-cut diamond, for your centerstone, you will often achieve a great look with moon-shaped diamonds or heart-shaped diamonds to balance the curves of the oval.
- Using similar cuts for all three stones often helps create a more traditionally styled three-stone diamond ring.
- Longer cuts, like the Emerald, can look good with pear-cut side stones.
Three-Stone Diamond Engagement Ring Ideas
If you're looking for an elegant marquise cut for the center stone, you might want to consider tapered baguettes as a side stone. This particular ring looks elegant and classy on either white gold or platinum. The marquise-cut is considered a great fit for those who have a touch of glamor and want their ring to convey that.
Another cut worth considering is an emerald-cut diamond as the centerstone adorned with trapezoid-shaped diamonds. This setting is not only elegant, but the trapezoid-shaped diamonds help extend the size and shape of the emerald-cut centerstone.
Asscher cuts are also possible with a three-stone diamond ring. The asscher cut, as with any square or rectangular cut diamond, looks best when it is adorned with trapezoidal diamonds or tapered baguette diamonds. This helps extend the shape of the centerstone and makes the diamond array look seamless.
Lastly, don't forget halo settings and pave settings. This pave setting features a princess cut center stone with round side stones. The pave setting adds a sense of continuity to the past, present, and future symbolized within the ring. Halo settings are also an enticing way to make the centerstone look even more elegant. An emerald-cut halo ring will stand out, especially when it is adorned by baguette diamonds. Three-stone diamond rings set in a halo manner are one of a kind.
Three-stone diamond rings do not have to be traditional and almost any desired setting can be found with King of Jewelry. Also, three-stone diamond rings do not need to be for engagement rings only. More extravagant settings are often used as wedding bands, some are used for the birth of a first child, and can even be given for a significant anniversary. Three-stone diamond rings are a classic, traditional ring that are always going to be popular.
Past, Present, and Future
The past, present, and future are all represented by the three stones in the diamond ring. The largest stone is always in the middle, which stands for the present. The present always travels with you and is a reminder that each moment is special. The smaller stones on either side of the center represent the past and the future, respectively.
Equal size diamonds contain three stones that are equal in carat weight. In a traditional graduating engagement ring, the center diamond will be the same weight as two of the other diamonds. For example, if the diamond in the middle weighs about half a carat, each of the two diamonds on the sides will weigh a quarter carat.
If you want something with less difference in size between the diamonds, you might like a slightly graduated style. The center stone of these rings is a little bit bigger than the side stones, but the difference in size between the center and side stones varies from ring to ring. You can choose between all diamonds or different stones. Some people choose the meaningful option of designing the ring based on their partner's birthstone.
Another idea is to use gemstones and diamonds together to make a beautiful, elegant ring that is unique and creative. When using a three-stone diamond ring, it's important to know your partner's style. You want a ring that fits her style and personality to show how well you know her and that you're ready to take your relationship to the next level.
Love, Loyalty, and Friendship
There are many different meanings for what a three-stone ring means, such as the special bond between a parent and a child. The mother, father, and child are shown by the three stones. People can use the ring to show that they have been together for three years or that they have three important people in their lives. Some people want to be different and creative, so they use this type of ring to make their own meanings.
You can choose it to represent traditional values, or you can make up your own meaning that you and your partner will always remember.
